The Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer, reporting to the AMS Council. The ED is responsible for strategic vision, organizational leadership, financial health, fundraising, membership growth, and community engagement. They oversee an $18 million budget, lead a staff of 72, and ensure AMS remains a trusted voice for science while navigating a rapidly evolving landscape.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, relationship-driven leader with experience managing complex organizations, preferably within the weather, water, or climate enterprise. Key skills include fundraising, financial management, team leadership, and external relations. A demonstrated ability to engage volunteers, build partnerships, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders is essential.
