826CHI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students ages 6–18 build creative and expository writing skills, while supporting teachers in inspiring their students to write. Programs emphasize one-on-one attention, fostering confidence and future success. With a focus on equity, 826CHI prioritizes BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse, and English Language Learners across Chicago communities most impacted by systemic disinvestment in arts and literacy education.
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive, responsible for strategy, fundraising, financial management, and staff leadership. Working with the Board of Directors, the ED ensures high-quality program delivery, advances racial equity and inclusion, and strengthens partnerships across schools, cultural institutions, and the broader community. The ED also represents 826CHI locally and nationally, liaises with 826 National, and oversees communications and external relations.
The ideal candidate has at least five years of senior nonprofit management experience, with a strong track record in fundraising, staff supervision, and board engagement. Skills in financial management, community partnership building, and program oversight are essential. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required; Spanish language proficiency is a plus. A passion for youth development, arts education, and equity is key.
