South Shore Stars (Stars), founded over 50 years ago, is dedicated to breaking the cycle of family and child poverty through affordable, high-quality childcare and education. Serving more than 1,200 children annually across Quincy, Randolph, and Weymouth, Stars provides a continuum of evidence-based programs from infancy through high school, including early education, afterschool and summer programs, youth development, and special education services. With a $13 million budget, 150 staff, and strong community roots, Stars has become a vital resource for families striving for stability and self-sufficiency.

The Role

The Executive Director will serve as the chief executive, responsible for overall strategy, fundraising, operations, and partnerships. Working with a dedicated Board of Directors and senior leadership team, the ED will oversee all programs, lead the newly founded Stars School and Learning Center, strengthen philanthropy, ensure fiscal sustainability, and serve as the primary spokesperson advocating for Stars’ mission and families.

What They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • At least eight years of senior leadership experience in education or a related sector
  • Knowledge of early education, special education, child development, youth programming, and family engagement
  • Strong nonprofit management and financial oversight skills, including experience with government contracts
  • Fundraising and grant-writing expertise with a proven ability to grow diverse revenue sources
  • Collaborative leadership skills with a commitment to staff development and community engagement
  • Massachusetts Department of Education Special Education Administrator License (or ability to obtain within six months)
