Overview

Adventure Scientists is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the planet by pairing scientists with skilled adventurers to collect critical, hard-to-access environmental data. Since its founding, the organization has collaborated with partners such as National Geographic, the U.S. Forest Service, and Harvard Medical School—driving impact across biodiversity, climate, and conservation science. Its projects have prevented illegal timber harvests, restored native species, built the world’s largest dataset on microplastics, and advanced antibiotic resistance research.

The Role

The Executive Director will lead Adventure Scientists into its next chapter, transforming a pioneering, founder-led organization into a sustainable global force for conservation. Reporting to the Board of Directors and partnering closely with the Founder/Executive Chairman, the ED will guide strategic growth, strengthen operations, and expand the organization’s reach and impact. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead an innovative, science-driven nonprofit at the intersection of adventure and environmental protection.

What They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has experience scaling organizations from startup to maturity—ideally leading growth from ~10 to 50+ staff. They bring strong financial management, operational excellence, and a proven ability to fundraise through major gifts, grants, or business development. Strategic vision, team leadership, and cross-sector collaboration skills are essential. A passion for conservation, science, and the outdoors—and comfort working in a hybrid Bozeman-based environment—are required.
