Executive Director — Animal Aid (Portland, OR)
$70,000–$90,000 • Full-time • On-site (with limited remote flexibility)
Animal Aid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue and welfare organization serving Portland since 1969. Its mission is to enhance the welfare of companion animals through rescue and adoption, individualized care, lifelong commitment, education, and community partnerships. Programs include a free-roam cat shelter, a foster program for cats and dogs, the Animal Aid Cares Fund for urgent veterinary/behavioral needs, and the It Takes a Pack supply-sharing program.
The Executive Director will serve as the chief executive, responsible for organizational leadership, fundraising, financial oversight, program management, and community engagement. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED ensures effective daily operations, develops long-term strategy, and represents Animal Aid to donors, partners, and the broader community.
The ideal candidate has prior nonprofit leadership experience, strong skills in fundraising, financial management, staff and volunteer supervision, and community engagement. A passion for animal welfare is essential. Comfort with public speaking, team leadership, and donor cultivation is required. Preferred qualifications include experience in animal rescue, DEIA work, event coordination, and donor database management. Candidates must be able to work in a shelter environment with free-roam cats and occasional dogs.
