Overview

The Associates of the Boston Public Library is an independent nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic, literary, and artistic treasures of the Boston Public Library’s Special Collections. With over fifty years of impact, the organization supports conservation, digitization, and programming that ensures these collections remain accessible and inspiring for future generations.

The Role

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and public face of the Associates, responsible for strategic leadership, fundraising, and day-to-day operations. Partnering closely with the Board of Directors and Boston Public Library leadership, the ED will expand public engagement with Special Collections, strengthen donor relationships, and manage a small team while ensuring organizational sustainability.

What They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has significant leadership experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and community engagement. Strong skills in donor cultivation, financial oversight, program development, and board relations are essential. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s is preferred. Passion for public libraries, literature, and cultural preservation is critical
