Overview

The Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), founded in 1895, is the state’s first nonprofit conservation organization and a pioneer in the national land conservation movement. CFPA connects people to Connecticut’s forests, parks, and trails while ensuring these natural treasures are protected and well-managed for future generations. With a $2M budget, $6M+ endowment, and a legacy of over 100 state parks and forests conserved, CFPA inspires lifelong engagement in conservation through advocacy, trail management, and education.

The Role

The Executive Director serves as CFPA’s chief executive, providing visionary leadership and ensuring mission alignment across advocacy, trail stewardship, and educational programs. Working with the Board and staff, the ED is responsible for strategy, fundraising, organizational health, and policy leadership at the state and federal levels. This role includes inspiring donors, partners, and lawmakers, strengthening public policy, and cultivating the next generation of conservation leaders.

What They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has 15+ years of leadership experience in environmental or conservation-focused nonprofits, including senior-level management. Strong experience in fundraising, advocacy, and donor cultivation is required, along with proven skills in financial and endowment management. The candidate should bring fluency in science-based conservation, exceptional communications skills, and the ability to inspire staff, board, and stakeholders. A deep commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) is essential.

  • Salary range: $130,000–$150,000 + full benefits (100% employer-paid medical/dental/vision, 403(b) with 4% employer contribution, 12 paid holidays, 2 weeks vacation, FSA, professional development, bonus program).
