The Edward M. Dowd Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to strengthening communities in Monterey and Santa Clara counties, with a special focus on Salinas. Founded in 2020, the Foundation supports nonprofits in arts and education, health and human services, and veterans’ support. With a spend-down strategy over the next two decades, the Foundation is committed to creating lasting impact through thoughtful, community-driven grantmaking.
The Executive Director will serve as the chief executive, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. The ED is responsible for strategic planning, grantmaking oversight, operations, and community partnerships. This leader will guide the Foundation’s vision, ensure responsible disbursement of funds, and serve as an effective ambassador to the community while preparing the organization for a successful spend-down.
The ideal candidate has significant leadership experience in philanthropy, civic, or nonprofit organizations, preferably with strong ties to the Salinas and Santa Clara regions. Essential skills include financial management, grantmaking, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. Strong communication abilities, emotional intelligence, and integrity are critical. Candidates must live in or near Monterey or Santa Clara counties.
