SAFE Haven for Cats is a nonprofit dedicated to ending euthanasia as a means of population control and eliminating pet homelessness. Since its founding 28 years ago, the organization has facilitated over 17,000 adoptions and provided more than 50,000 sterilization surgeries. With a $2.2M budget, 20 staff, 8 board members, and over 700 volunteers, SAFE Haven is the Triangle’s leader in animal welfare and advocacy.
The Executive Director will serve as the chief executive, providing strategic leadership, fundraising, and operational oversight. The ED will guide staff, board, and volunteers in advancing SAFE Haven’s mission while ensuring strong financial management, effective program delivery, and community engagement.
The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of executive nonprofit leadership experience, ideally in animal welfare. Key strengths include strategic visioning, fundraising, staff development, and financial oversight. Experience managing a $1M+ budget, cultivating major donors, and leading a large volunteer network is essential. A passion for animal welfare, community education, and no-kill initiatives is required.
