ShoreRivers is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting Maryland’s Eastern Shore waterways through science-based advocacy, restoration, education, and community engagement. With a 40-year history, a $7M annual budget, and a staff of 30+, ShoreRivers serves as a leading regional Riverkeeper organization advocating for clean, safe, and swimmable rivers for all.

The Role

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive, responsible for strategic planning, financial sustainability, fundraising, and organizational leadership. Reporting to the Board of Governors, the ED ensures programs are solutions-oriented, impactful, and aligned with ShoreRivers’ mission. The ED will work from both Easton and Chestertown offices and must reside on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

What They’re Looking For

The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of leadership experience, preferably in the environmental or social sector. A bachelor’s degree or higher in an environmental, conservation, or related field is required; additional leadership training is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Proven fundraising success with donors, foundations, and grants
  • Strong financial and operational management skills
  • Knowledge of Chesapeake Bay watershed and estuarine systems
  • Ability to communicate as a confident and credible public speaker
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and servant leadership values

A passion for environmental protection and ShoreRivers’ mission is essential.
